The term"server" :
The word “server” is used for software as well as for machines. Thus we have software servers or services such as Web or mail, etc… and machine servers which are the computers. Even if it is advised to use a software server by machine, a server does not necessarily mean one and only one machine, since it is possible to configure several software servers on a machine. On the other hand a software server can be extended on several machines for redundancy purposes (robustness of the system).
